OVERVIEW:

The Sierra Foothills’ soils and microclimates—across varied elevations—support many varietals, including grapes uncommon in California. Inspired by these hidden possibilities and her love of Napa, founder Janis Akuna sought to share a distinct wine experience. Amador County’s rural charm, echoing Napa’s early days, moved her most. In 2009 Janis and her husband Andy Friedlander replanted parts of a 1970s vineyard and sourced top-quality fruit. With Sage Architecture and Sunseri Construction they built a sustainable, state‑of‑the‑art winery focused on producing world‑class wines with a unique, attractive design.
